BACK-TO-BACK AND QUALIFICATION FOR THE INTERNATIONAL FOR PSG.LGD

Only a few days after they became the first chinese team to win a Major, the PSG.LGD Dota 2 squad got themselves a double in Changsha.

They barely got back from Moscow with the EPICENTER XL trophy, still, Wang ‘Ame‘ Chunyu and his teammates were back at it, this time at home in front of the chinese crowd and what’s more with the favourite status. In absence of Virtus Pro and Team Liquid, PSG.LGD had a strong card to play in order to secure a good rank in the Dota Pro Circuit but the opponents weren’t missing ! Mineski, Team Secret, Newbee and Vici Gaming were taking part in the competition and they were willing to collect as many points as possible in the run-up to the world championships.

Despite a very good start against Vega Squadron and Newbee in opening of the MDL Changsha Major, the sino-malaysian team had a partial sucess during the group stage. PSG.LGD finished fourth of its group with two wins, two losses and a draw. To everyone’s surprise, the parisian club began the playoffs in the Lower Bracket in which a defeat was synonym of elimination. Lu ‘Somnus丶M‘ Yao provided an explanation to vpesports about this difficult start : « We didn’t fully understand the meta during the group stage. And QQQ’s draft was terrible. The good thing is that eventually he listened to us […], so we just got better and better.».

Back to the wall, the Parisians got scared all the way to the second ballot conceeding a round on an unexpected comeback from TNC after a 70 minutes game. This conceeded map was the last one PSG.LGD was giving away during the weekend. Team Secret, Newbee, Vici Gaming, they all suffered from the blue and red steamroller which did no mercy with three 2-0 victories in the Lower Bracket allowing PSG.LGD to reach the grand final against VGJ Storm.

The first game of the grand final was quick and despite a very fast pace game based on agression, the Americans couldn’t resist more than 32 minutes. Lu ‘Somnus丶M‘ Yao then did the break on his own during the second round. With 4,000 gold ahead of his opponents in less than 9 minutes and with 24 kills at the end of the game, he made short work of VGJ. Roman ‘Resolution‘ Fominok tried to get his troops back together after a very good start in the third game but in vain because Lu ‘Somnus丶M‘ Yao and Xu ‘Fy‘ Linsen turned it around allowing PSG.LGD to win the title.

This trophy they won in China has a unique flavour for the players : « Only a few people would cheer for you if you win a Major in a foreign country. Here, the crowd was really enthusiastic and we could feel the warmth and a scene of belonging ». But this victory is also special because it allowed the team to secure a spot for The International.

From the 15th of august, PSG.LGD will be playing the Dota 2 world championships, one of the biggest if it’s not the biggest esports event in the world. The qualification was a goal for the two clubs but it is now the title which the PSG.LGD is aiming for. Ici c’est Paris !
